Taxes and investments are key components of your personal financial plan, but peace of mind comes from attention to all aspects of your financial life.  The time we take to understand you – your goals, your values, your relationships, your personal history, every aspect of your finances – helps us be effective, trusted guides during your life’s transitions.

Holistic Financial Planning and the Importance of Integration

If you are like most people, you have several pieces of your financial plan in place – you pay taxes, invest in the market, have some insurance, and maybe have an estate and retirement plan. However, it is likely that each of these pieces was developed independently and at different times in your life. It is also likely that you have never had all the pieces reviewed by someone who was not trying to sell you something. Is it any surprise that you wonder whether you are on the right path and making the best possible progress?

As the diagram below shows, we take a holistic approach and work with you to put all the pieces of your financial life together into one comprehensive plan that matches your goals and values.

Holistic financial planning is a process, not an event. Instead of just telling you what to do, we work together with you, educating you and providing you with easy-to-understand recommendations and helping you implement them every step of the way. Learn more details about our personal holistic financial planning process.

Fee Structure

As fee-only financial planners, we sell no products, receive no commissions, nor do we pay or accept referral or finder’s fees. After we get acquainted and learn the extent of your planning needs, we will quote you an upfront fixed fee for our services – the Initial Year Retainer. Calculated based on the scope of services, your income, assets, and the overall complexity of your financial situation, this retainer covers services provided in the first year as we mutually develop and implement your financial plan. In addition, you have full access to us throughout the year at no additional charge whenever you have questions or your circumstances change.

As financial planning is an ongoing process, most clients continue to engage us year after year under a Renewal Year Retainer. After the first year creating your comprehensive financial plan, the Renewal Year Retainer helps to keep you on track and make adjustments as life happens.

Flexible Services and No Minimums

We work with people of all income and asset levels with no minimums required. This means we can help people across the financial spectrum including young professionals just starting out and others needing help getting on the right track. If working with us on an ongoing basis is not the right solution for you, we provide other shorter-term services that can be tailored to meet your needs.

Our Clients

We enjoy working with a variety of client situations and life stages, but find that we are best at helping clients who are in the following situations:

Young Professionals

You are early in your career and starting to focus on how to use your financial resources wisely.

  • Prioritizing savings plans for the future (emergency savings, children’s college, retirement, etc.)
  • Navigating financial decisions around life changes including starting a family, buying a home, changing jobs, or going back to school
  • Cash flow planning and prioritizing competing goals such as saving and investing versus paying off student loans and consumer debt
  • Insurance needs and estate planning to protect new and growing families

Mid-Career Professionals

Retirement is 10 years or more away and you are starting to focus on the next phase of your life prior to retirement.

  • Navigating financial decisions around making a career change, changing jobs, or starting a business
  • Determining whether accumulated retirement savings will be enough and if not, what adjustments to make to get on track
  • Determining the appropriate risk to take to grow assets to meet future needs while sufficiently protecting accumulated net worth
  • Updating insurance coverages and estate plans that may be out of date

Pre-Retirees or Newly Retired

You are planning to retire in less than 10 years or have recently retired and you are starting to focus on how you will live in retirement.

  • Simplifying and consolidating financial accounts and complexity accumulated over a lifetime
  • Determining resources needed to afford desired lifestyle in retirement and keeping goals on track
  • Navigating the transition to retirement, including creating a Retirement Paycheck from the portfolio
  • Navigating Social Security, including when to start benefits and the impact on cash flow
  • Navigating Medicare, including when to enroll and what type of plan to choose
  • Planning and implementing a strategy for charitable and family gifting
